1799: The Rosetta Stone was found in Egypt. The Stone dates to 196 BC, and was found by Napoleon Bonaparte’s French army. The Stone allowed Egyptian hieroglyphs to be translated for the first time. The Stone is now on display in the British Museum.

Her diary was discovered after the war, still hidden in the Amsterdam warehouse; it was published in 1947.
