Scene 2: Snowflakes

Snowflakes

Dress totally in white (t-shirt, jeans, trainers etc.). Use cloaks of white gauze, muslin or even old net curtains to give them a diaphanous appearance. The costumes could also be decorated with silver tinsel. Also, why not set a project for the children to make snowflake-shaped head-dresses for themselves? They could use stiff white card and decorate them with silver glitter.

They can imitate snowflakes by dancing and skipping around, waving their arms and weaving in and out of each other.

Scene 3: Sammy’s Field – Christmas Eve

Sammy the Snowman

Dress totally in white (t-shirt, jeans, trainers etc.).

Scene 4: Sammy’s Field – Christmas Day

The Rabbits

All you need are some brown clothes, and some home-made rabbit ears (try stiff cardboard taped to an Alice band).

They can imitate rabbits by hopping with both feet together, and holding their hands (or paws!) up together in front of their chest.

The carrot-nose can be created with a long cone of bright orange card, with elastic to hold it in place.

Scene 5: Here Come the Penguins

The Penguins

The male Penguins require a pair of black trousers, a white shirt and a bow-tie; the female Penguins require a black skirt, white blouse and bow tie. To complete the look use shiny black shoes, black balaclavas and a bright orange beak (made from stiff card, with elastic to hold it in place). They should also wear brightly-coloured woolly hats and scarves.

They can imitate penguins by keeping their feet together and waddling, and keeping their arms by their sides with hands sticking out perpendicular to their bodies. Even better, they can make “quacking” noises as they waddle!

Scene 6: Here Come the Robins

Robins

Dress in brown (or black) clothes, and fasten a big, red paper disc to the chest, or use bright red t-shirts or jumpers. Complete the look with a small beak (made from stiff card, with elastic to hold it in place).

They can imitate robins by hopping on both feet, and flapping their arms behind them like wings. They’ll also need to “tweet” and “chirp” as they hop around!

Scene 7: Here Comes Santa

For Sammy’s dance of joy with the other Snowmen, try choreographing a simple dance routine incorporating lots of “jumps of joy”!

For the Children’s banner, simply use a long roll of paper, or a section of plain wallpaper, painted with “WE LOVE SAMMY!” in large letters. It’d be a great class project for the children to decorate the banner with lots of festive colour and glitter.
