Scene 1: Welcome To Our Show!

Scene 2: Nazareth
Children are gathered off-stage (either at the sides or the front of the stage area).
Narrator 1: Christmas is a very special time of year, and today we have a very special show – all about magic words!
Everyone: (Impressed) Ooooo!
Narrator 2: Magic words that tell us the story of Christmas. And the first magic word is “Nazareth”.
A Child (or a Narrator) holds up a large piece of card marked with the word “NAZARETH!”
Narrator 3: Our story begins 2000 years ago, far away in a town called Nazareth, where Mary and Joseph lived.
Mary and Joseph enter.
Narrator 4: One day, angels from heaven visited Mary.

The Angels enter.
Narrator 4: The angels brought wonderful news – Mary was going to have a baby!

Scene 3: The Road To Bethlehem
Mary and Joseph are standing on one side of the stage.
Narrator 1: The next magic word is “Donkey”.
A Child (or a Narrator) holds up a large piece of card marked with the word “DONKEY!”
Narrator 2: Mary and Joseph had to go on a very long journey to Bethlehem. There were no cars 2000 years ago, so they had to travel by donkey!
The Donkey enters.
Everyone: (Pretending to be donkeys) Ee-or!

Scene 4: No Room At The Inn
Mary, Joseph and the Donkey are standing on one side of the stage.
Narrator 3: The next magic word is “Bethlehem”.
A Child (or a Narrator) holds up a large piece of card marked with the word “BETHLEHEM!”
Narrator 4: It was a very long way to Bethlehem, so Mary, Joseph and the donkey were very tired when they arrived.
All the Children yawn loudly.
Narrator 4: But they couldn’t find anywhere to sleep – all the inns were full up!
All the Children: Sympathetically) Aaaah…

The Innkeepers exit.
Scene 5: The Stable
Mary, Joseph and the Donkey are standing on one side of the stage.
Narrator 1: The next magic word is “Stable”.
A Child (or a Narrator) holds up a large piece of card marked with the word “STABLE!”
Narrator 2: The only place Mary and Joseph could find to sleep was in a stable, with all the animals!
Everyone: (Sympathetically) Aaaah…
Track 9: ON OFF MUSIC |
The Animals enter and stand behind Mary and Joseph, who are watching over the sleeping baby Jesus.
Narrator 3: And it was here, in the stable, where Mary had her baby – a little boy, called Jesus.
Narrator 4: A magical star appeared in the sky over the stable.
Everyone: (Impressed) Ooooo!

The Star enters.
Narrator 4: The star shone heavenly light down on the little baby, asleep on the hay.

Scene 6: The Shepherds
Narrator 1: The next magic word is “Shepherds”.
A Child (or a Narrator) holds up a large piece of card marked with the word “SHEPHERDS!”
Narrator 2: On the hills, not far from the stable, some shepherds were looking after their sheep.
Track 13: ON OFF MUSIC |
The Shepherds enter.
Narrator 2: Suddenly, the angels appeared!
Everyone: (Impressed) Ooooo!
Track 14: ON OFF MUSIC |
The Angels enter.
Narrator 3: The shepherds were very scared, but the angels said, “Don’t be afraid – we bring wonderful news! A very special baby has been born in a stable. He will grow up to do wonderful things – you must go and worship him.”

Scene 7: The Three Wise Men
Narrator 1: The next magic words are “Wise Men”.
A Child (or a Narrator) holds up a large piece of card marked with the words “WISE MEN!”
Narrator 2: The magical star still shone over the stable where Jesus had been born.
Everyone: (Impressed) Ooooo!
Track 17: ON OFF MUSIC |
The Star enters from one side of the stage.
Narrator 3: Three wise men had come from very far away, following the star.
The three Wise Men enter from the opposite side of the stage.

Narrator 4: The three wise men had heard about the birth of Jesus, and they wanted to give him gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh. So they set off again, following the magical star.

The three Wise Men exit in the direction of the Star.
Scene 8: The Stable
Mary, Joseph, the Donkey, the Animals, and the Angels enter and gather near the Star; they all watch over the sleeping baby Jesus.
Narrator 1: (Whispering) The next magic word is “Baby”. Shhhh!
All the Children: Shhhh!
A Child (or a Narrator) holds up a large piece of card marked with the word “BABY!”
Narrator 2: Inside the stable, the baby Jesus was sleeping peacefully on the hay, when the shepherds and the wise men arrived to worship him.

The Shepherds and the three Wise Men enter and worship Jesus.
Narrator 3: Everyone knew that Jesus was a very special baby who would grow up to do wonderful things and bring peace to the world.
